Research has demonstrated that regardless of socioeconomic status of students in a school, high performing schools embrace the following practices:
Collective efficacy
Professional learning communities
An optimistic school culture
An emphasis on results
Collaborative problem solving
Strong instructional leadership
High academic expectations
How does your school compare to each of these gold standards? Are there ways you could foster a paradigm shift in your building? Principals and teachers must build flexible structures that ensure teamwork, respect, communication, and collaboration. Coercive bureaucracies in education are futile.
